Children across the GLF Schools Multi-Academy Trust did their bit for Comic Relief's annual Red Nose Day appeal, which took place this year on Friday 15 March. All was bright at Danetree Primary School in Ewell when the children swapped their uniforms for more colourful attire to raise money for the charity.
The school also held competitions to further boost funds for the cause, with children in Key Stage 1 challenged to dress cartoon dog Bluey, while those in Key Stage 2 worked with Lego to create designs to help the environment. “Key Stage 1 children designed an outfit for Bluey that was funny and entertaining,” said Georgia Whitfield, Year 2 teacher at Danetree. “In Key Stage 2, we asked the children to think about one of the big issues facing the planet – from drought and desertification, food waste, or sustainable building – and then use their imagination to design something that helps to deal with one of these issues in partnership with Lego.” Children at Chestnut Park Primary School in Croydon dressed ‘happy’ in support of Comic Relief, and also held an end-of-day cake sale, where donated goodies included doughnuts, cake bars, cup cakes, brownies and flapjacks. Red noses abounded at Pine Ridge Infant School and Lorraine Infant School in Camberley, where children across the two schools designed their own noses for Red Nose Day. They also wore non-uniform for the day. The Trust’s secondary schools joined in the fundraising fun too, with students at Meridian High School in Croydon also sporting non-uniform, as well as holding a Comic Relief cake sale to raise money for the cause.
