Students at a Fenham school are celebrating the exceptionally good results which they received this morning. Among those celebrating at Sacred Heart Catholic High School, a member of Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust, were students heading to university or for apprenticeships with some of the biggest names in finance.
“Huge congratulations to all our Year 13 students who have shown incredible dedication and resilience, working so hard over the last two years. We are enormously proud of you all,” said Suzanne Howell, Headteacher. “At Sacred Heart we are ambitious for all our students and want them to have the best opportunities for their future lives. These excellent results will open doors to the careers and the futures our students aspire to. Our staff and governors congratulate all students and wish them every success in their future lives.” Kelly Mufuka, 18, is heading to the University of Birmingham to study law after a grade A in sociology, B in politics and a Distinction* in law. “I am really excited and I’m the first one in the family to go to university,” she said. “The school has been wonderful and supportive; there was a massive jump from my GCSE results and the hard work has been really worthwhile.” Her parents, Eric and Maria, were ‘really proud’ of their daughter’s success and they will all be heading to London to celebrate with the wider family. Katie Brown is also heading for a legal career as she is going to work with the multi-national law firm Clifford Chance where she will be an apprentice paralegal from September. Having seen law as a subject for sixth form, she became interested in the subject and hopes to make it her career. She was awarded an A for Religious Studies, C for geography and a Distinction* for law. “I was over the moon when I saw my results,” she said; “I’m the first legal career in the family." Her parents, Helen and Phil, have a similar routine to go through next week when Katie’s younger sister Chloe, also at Sacred Heart, will receive her GCSE results. It will be all about the numbers for Grace Kokibali who has plans to become a chartered accountant - despite her family all working in healthcare. Grace achieved an A* in textile design, A in economics and an A for maths and will be heading to Newcastle University for a course in partnership with PWC - a multi-national accounting company. Her work placements will be with the company during her four years at university which runs a ‘Flying Start’ degree programme to help students become qualified as a chartered accountant while completing a Bsc honours degree. “My family are really proud, I’m really happy and I worked really hard for the results,” she said. Most of the family work in healthcare and at first it was a bit strange that I wasn’t going into the same career, but I’m excited for the future.” “We have an impressive number of girls with a combination of A* and A grades going off to study high tariff courses at some of the best universities in this country, including Oxford and Cambridge as well as medical schools. We have also had great success with our vocational courses, with students achieving the highest Distinction* grades and going on to study nursing, midwifery and optometry,” said Mrs Howell.
