Moving to Norfolk to help his parents sparked a complete change of life for carer Daniel Plain. He is marking his fifth anniversary of living in Heacham - and of working for home care company Extra Hands which he joined shortly after moving to the coast.
Originally from Bedford, Daniel was previously working in a supermarket warehouse, but all that changed when he and his family moved to join his parents in the West Norfolk coastal village. “I much prefer it here, it’s a really nice place,” he said. And his new working life has worked out as well because Daniel says he has never looked back since joining the family-run company which also has offices in Horsham St Faith. He is also a previous winner of the Extra Hands’ Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Award which he collected in 2023 after two nominations from service users. “I think I am the same person I was when I started, but perhaps with different skills,” he said. He took to caring straight away and said he has no plans on changing his job again - Lottery wins aside! “I really like what I do and it works well with the hours,” he said. His dad had a stroke a couple of years ago and Daniel said it was good that he and his wife were living here as they are on-hand should help be needed. “We moved into the house and my parents are in an annexe. It works really well for us as we keep an eye on them and they have been able to help us as well,” he said. His wife Sharon works as a GP receptionist and the couple have a teenage son. Family-run Extra Hands also has an office in Horsham St Faith and offers home care across the county.
