Children at Banstead Infants School are ‘excited about learning,’ are kind to each other and behave exceptionally well according to the school's latest Ofsted report. The school, a member of the GLF Schools Multi-Academy Trust, has introduced a new curriculum which has been ‘carefully designed’ and in 2023 the pupils achieved exceptionally well in reading and writing, the report notes.
“They are keen to get the day started when they arrive in school, happily waving to their parents as they join their classmates. Well-established routines and high expectations ensure that pupils feel safe, comfortable and well cared for,” the report says. “Pupils are kind to each other and behave exceptionally well throughout the school. They arrive in the morning ready to learn, greet visitors politely and wear their school uniform with pride,” it adds. The school continues to be ‘good’ and has 219 pupils aged from five to seven. The inspector highlighted the hard work of staff since the new curriculum was implemented in September, and said they have high morale and are proud to work at the school. “I am extremely proud of the school and pleased that the inspector recognised the quality of education and wider opportunities we offer our children,” said Headteacher Andy Burbidge. Support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) was praised in the report, which said staff complete regular training and work closely with specialist services including occupational therapy. The school also offers a wide range of experiences to complement learning, with skills such as first-aid, online safety and swimming all on offer. The art curriculum contributes to their creative and cultural development. “The new curriculum has been carefully designed to reflect current research about how pupils learn well. It is well sequenced and builds on the school’s previous effective curriculum, with an increased focus on deepening pupils’ learning,” the inspector said.
