A Lemington primary school has a new look thanks to a recent transformation and refurbishment project. A stunning new library space has been welcomed by the entire community at St George’s Catholic Primary School, not least of all by the young readers. The library was designed by staff, and local artist Jamie Henderson, of The Cloud of H, brought the designs to life to create a vibrant and colourful environment for pupils and the wider school community to enjoy.
It features artwork from a variety of children’s favourite reads including Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. “Jamie has done a wonderful job, and we could not be more thrilled with how our library has turned out,” said Executive Headteacher Anne Bullerwell. “Reading is at the heart of our curriculum and provides the bedrock and cornerstone to all learning and academic success in later life, achieving better educational opportunities and social mobility,” she added. To celebrate the new library, a special St George’s Book Celebration Day was held when pupils were invited to dress in characters of their favourite books. The children are being encouraged to read for pleasure in the new-look library which was officially opened by Anita Bath, the Chief Executive of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust which includes St George’s in its schools. “It was opened to the children with gasps of awe and wonder. It has also been wonderful to see our teachers reading to children in the library, enjoying stories and visiting magical worlds together,” added Mrs Bullerwell. The school has been undergoing major alterations which have also seen the creation of updated classrooms and meeting areas alongside the new library and a new Early Years area. A short film about the changes can be found on the school website: www.stgcps.org
