Pupils at the Glyn School in Ewell had a taste of the showbiz lifestyle recently with their very own red-carpet premiere of the latest school production – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
This year the school is taking part in the BBC's School Report scheme, which culminates in the nationwide News Day on March 10th, and in the build-up to the big day, the School Report team decided to host the preview to give students the opportunity to hone their broadcasting and interviewing skills

"The school production is always a big event and a major fixture on the calendar, and the fact that this year it comes close to School Report day meant that it was a great opportunity to get twice as much activity and involvement from it," said English teacher, Marise Jeyarajah, who is helping run School Report.

"We made it as professional as we could, streaming the coverage online, interviewing people involved and broadcasting some teasers for this year's production – so not only did the School Report crew have a great deal of fun doing it, but also we managed to spread the word and stir up more interest in the production, which takes place in mid-February".

Glyn School is one of the founder members of the rapidly-expanding GLF Schools group, a Surrey-based, cross-phase, multi-academy, trust which now runs over a dozen schools across Surrey, Middlesex, Berkshire and Oxfordshire, based on a system of collaborative management.

"We've never done anything like this before but it went really well and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience," said English teacher, Claire Keoshgerian, who is also involved in the running of School Report.

"Our school reporters got a taste of what it's like doing the job for real, ahead of their big day, and everyone involved in the production also got to feel what life is like in the spotlight. Not only that, but the event created a real buzz for the upcoming performances – we can't wait the production in full, so all round, the event was a great success."
