Pupils at the Croydon school got into the spirit of World Book Day and aside from the Mr Men and Misses there were superheroes, Ninja Turtles and princesses galore to ensure Thursday (March 2) had a truly literary theme.
Staff at Chestnut Park, a member of the Surrey-based GLF Schools multi-academy trust, played their part in events as they also dressed in costumes for the 20th anniversary of the national event to encourage young readers.
A special morning assembly saw some of the teachers share their own favourite books with colleagues and pupils while explaining about the annual World Book Day.
But staff were not the only ones with reading duties as Year 1 children took their turn to read to reception pupils during the afternoon.
“During the day, the children took part in lots of exciting reading activities. It was great to see how much effort everyone had put in to the day and there were some brilliant outfits. The children enjoyed it and the day is a great way to encourage a love of books,” said Deputy Head Teacher Denise Coady.
