Members of The Student Council decided to target waste plastic and contacted motor manufacturer Toyota to apply for a grant under its ‘Fund for a Better Tomorrow’ scheme to help provide facilities designed to lead to the reduction of waste.
The Council is hoping that by this time next year all students at the school, a member of the GLF multi-academy trust, will have a reusable bottle and won’t be adding to the environmental problems created by discarded plastics. The grant will be used to extend the provision of water fountains on the school site, allowing students the opportunity to re-fill reusable bottles. Representatives from the Surrey base of Toyota visited the school on Tuesday 22nd May to present a cheque for £1,750 to the Council and Headteacher Keith Batchelor. “The idea came directly from the wishes of the students and the Student Council contacted Toyota to ask for assistance in this important cause. The eloquent letter must have been convincing because we were awarded a grant,” said Mr Batchelor. “We are very grateful to Toyota for helping with this project and look forward to working together on more endeavours in the future,” he added.
