Music plays a prominent role in the curriculum at the school, which is part of the Surrey-based GLF multi-schools academy trust, and was recently rated as a good school by Ofsted.
Springfield’s singers have built an impressive reputation in recent years, having also performed at the Royal Albert Hall and Croydon’s Fairfield Hall. A group of 37 pupils represented Springfield in the choir of 8000 young singers, entertaining the audience with a selection of songs including They Might Be Giants’ ‘Birdhouse in your soul’. Also on the bill were 2015 world beatbox champions The Beatbox Collective, soul singer Natalie Williams and former X Factor contestant Tabby Callaghan. “This was another great performance by the children,” said Springfield teacher Hannah Gregson, who was in charge of the group. “A lot of friends and family turned out to support them, and they put on a wonderful performance, behaving superbly and acting as great ambassadors for the school. Every year the Springfield choir does wonderful things, and that really inspires other children to want to get involved, so we look forward to this sowing the seeds for further success.”
