A Northumberland primary school has celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by holding a special party. Children at St Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary in Blyth dressed up in party clothes today with all classes taking part in fun activities in the afternoon. Pupils also enjoyed a special treat with the arrival of an ice-cream van, which handed out an ice-cream to every child.
Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee on 6 February - the day which marks 70 years since her accession to the throne. All classes at St Wilfrid’s, which is part of Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust, have learned about the Jubilee and the contribution of the Queen to the people of the United Kingdom. Some of the learning has compared her reign to that of Queen Victoria, who was on the throne for 63 years. Pauline Johnstone, head teacher at St Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary, said: ”St. Wilfrid's wanted to hold a celebration to recognise this amazing achievement and to show our appreciation of the huge amount of work and service of Queen Elizabeth." Events to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be taking place throughout the year, culminating in a four day UK bank holiday in June. The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service.
