Everyone from the Incredible Hulk to the Queen of Hearts could be found at Warlingham Village School when staff and students celebrated World Book Day. Young pupils were invited to bring to life their favourite literary character for the 20th annual national event designed to encourage children to enjoy a lifelong love of books.
“This was a day full of fun for everyone, but most importantly, it gave the children a chance to indulge their imagination and immerse themselves in books. Our thanks also go to parents for the imaginative and fantastic variety of costumes,” said head teacher Mr Geoff Green. Morning lessons all had a book theme and titles involved varied from The Gruffalo to Alice in Wonderland and, of course, Harry Potter. All the children and staff dressed up for the event on Thursday (March 2) when activities with a literary theme included artwork, reviews, acting and making their own books. At the end of day the school, a member of the GLF Schools multi-academy trust, held a special assembly and each class stood up in turn to tell everyone what they had done.
