Kieran Voisey achieved tenth place in the under-17 category 5k wheelchair race from Old Billingsgate and Pall Mall just hours before the London Marathon.
It was the first time Kieran, a student at de Stafford School, joined the starting line-up and he was so inspired by the competition that he achieved a personal best time of 17:43 on the day. Prior to the event his first recorded time had been 22:55..
“It was particularly exciting racing past some of London’s monuments, with my family and friends supporting me through the race,” he said.
“I went downhill through a tunnel with loud music playing, which was one highlight of the race, and before I knew it I had reached the 4km mark.”
Kieran trains twice a week at the David Weir Leisure Centre in Carshalton and is part of the Velocity Racing Club with ten others, some of whom are training for the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.
“My aim is to eventually compete in the Paralympics and to compete internationally all over the world,” he said.
