There were many reasons to celebrate when the GCSE results were received by students.
The New Addington school recorded good improvements in key subjects, including English, and head teacher Martin Giles said he was incredibly proud of all the achievements.

The school also celebrated their best ever results in Spanish, drama and hospitality and catering. Meridian’s Open Evening is taking place on Monday 23 September from 5pm to 8pm.

“It was an amazing morning at Meridian High School today, celebrating another year of improved academic outcomes. These results show we have continued to make sustainable improvements on our development journey, increasing academic achievement in key subjects. We are excited, committed and ready to build on these achievements even further in the year ahead as we develop our learning community” he said.

Head boy Jack Cress was delighted with his results that included four Grade 9s, three 8s and two 7s. He is off to Coulsdon Sixth Form College to study business, Spanish and politics.

“I was very nervous this morning because I was adamant something had gone wrong but it didn’t and the feeling right now is of pure relief. I’m feeling immense pride right now - it’s so satisfying that I have achieved what I have.

"I can sum up my time here at Meridian in one word: Fantastic. I am really going to miss this place because I have loved my time here. It has helped me so much and built my confidence. When I walked in here as a Year 7 pupil, I did not expect to get these results so to be here with these results in my hand, it’s amazing.”

Head girl Ava Smart was pleased with her GCSEs, which included a Grade 9 in English Literature and an 8 in drama. She is heading to Langley Park School to study English Language, sociology and history

“I really didn’t know what to expect this morning and I was shaking coming in here because I didn’t know what to expect, but I am so proud of my results and what I’ve achieved, especially my English Literature result

“I have enjoyed my journey here at Meridian. It took a while for me to come out of my shell and had to really work hard at GCSE. It’s amazing to think how far I’ve come and how much my confidence has grown. Meridian has helped me to look forward to the future and now I want to become a teacher.”

Charlotte Delaney was also happy with her results including Grade 8 in sociology and English Language as well as two 7s in English Literature and drama. She’s off to Coulsdon Sixth Form College to study sociology, psychology and film studies

“I am very happy today. I thought I was going to get lower so I’m delighted with what I’m seeing right now. I’ve really enjoyed my time here at Meridian - they’ve really helped me a lot.”

Kieran Desouza said he was was shocked by his GCSE results which included six Grade 6s and two 5s. He’s also going to Coulsdon Sixth Form College to study media studies, photography and graphic design.

“I’m really surprised with my results. I had done badly in my mocks in English so I was really pleased two get two 6s. I was honestly expecting them to be worse so I’m chuffed that all my hard work has paid off."
