Pupils from Forge Wood Primary School had a closer look at their new school which is being built on a site adjacent to the current temporary school.
The children were told that an astonishing 40,000 bricks will be used in the school building which will serve the growing community. Pupils, parents and staff can see the new school, due for completion in September, growing from the ground-up from their current school site on Somerley Drive. “The children saw some of the machines that were being used in the construction process, including the crane. They asked questions including how many toilets there will be and how many bricks are going to be used,” said deputy head teacher Katharine Holman. “Some of them have said they want to go to their new school now, everyone is very excited,” she added. There have been two visits to the site and pupils were inspired for a special project on buildings. They have been pretending to be builders to learn about the art and science of construction creating their own models which have included schools, ice cream shops and libraries. Forge Wood Primary School is a member of the GLF Schools multi-academy Trust and has been designed by Stride Treglown architects.
