The first Christmas Bonanza show at a Wisbech academy since the pandemic entertained an audience including the Mayoress of Wisbech this week.
The Thomas Clarkson Academy Christmas Bonanza was a show of art, music, drama and dance and Mayoress Janet Tanfield attended with council member David Sagoo.

A Wisbech academy is taking the lead from an Icelandic Christmas tradition and giving students the chance to take part in a Jólabókaflóð - book flood.
On Christmas Eve people in Iceland exchange gifts of books, and read them straight away in front of a warm fire while eating chocolate. Powerful writing and artwork by a group of students at a Wisbech academy has seen them published in a joint project with Trinity College, Cambridge.
The Litmus Project is aimed at creative writers or artists and encourages pupils from years nine to 11 to submit poetry, prose or artwork based on a theme - which this year was Over the Border. An amazing group of students at a Wisbech school signed-up to become Mental Health Champions.
Assemblies were held across all year groups at the Thomas Clarkson Academy, and pupils were keen to become part of the project which aims to help them look over their own mental health, and that of their friends. The intricacies of science around DNA coding were unravelled for a group of Wisbech students who visited the world-renowned Wellcome Sanger Institute in Cambridge.
The Human Genome Project started at the institute and pupils from the Thomas Clarkson Academy were given a guided tour and an insight into sequencing DNA, the building blocks of life. Exploring art as a therapy is a new step being taken at the Thomas Clarkson Academy with the first participating students already getting creative. Their work has been on display in the run-up to half-term, and there are plans to involve more students after the break so more can benefit. Spending Christmas in a cramped rowing boat crossing the Atlantic with not much sleep might not sound like fun - but it did sound inspirational to a group of Wisbech students. Two intrepid rowers visited the Thomas Clarkson Academy to raise awareness of their charity 3,000-mile journey as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge which is due to start on December 23. There were celebrations at a Wisbech academy when students arrived to collect their GCSE results this morning. Thomas Clarkson Academy, a member of the Brooke Weston Trust, was buzzing when the Year 11 teenagers received a fantastic set of exam results which reflected their hard work over the last two years and more. There was cause for double celebration for a Wisbech student who celebrated passing his driving test and his A Levels on the same morning. Kacper Mrozik (18), took his driving test in King’s Lynn and passed before heading into the Thomas Clarkson Academy to collect his A Level results - which saw him achieve his first choice university in Leicester. |
