All of the staff and children took to dressing-up as their favourite literary characters on Thursday (March 2) and spent the day exploring and enjoying books. There was a fantastic collection of superheroes and an equally impressive group of princesses along with Harry potter, Little Red Riding Hood and the staff were just as inventive with pirates and The Cat in the Hat among the team. “It was an amazing effort by everybody and the whole school was treated to a story from The Cat in the Hat and Mary Poppins,” said English Subject Leader Claire Martin. Every class spent the day enjoying the world of books and creating artwork, performing drama and designing comic books to add to the theme. The school, which, since spring 2016, has been a member of the Surrey-based GLF Schools multi-academy trust, also launched its Extreme Reading Challenge where pupils are encouraged to take their books to unusual places, provide a picture of them reading, and take it to school. It could be anywhere from a tree house to a dog house and everything in between - but all in fun and designed to continue encouraging the young students to enjoy reading.
